Morgan qualified for the match play stage in first position at Duntryleague before beating Newcastle’s Jill Blenkley 5 and 4 in the semi-final yesterday morning.
In the final she met a gallant Nikki Haines, of Moore Park Golf Club, who fell off the pace early and struggled to recover.
“It was a really high quality field this week and you never really know with these things,” Morgan said.
“Monash is pretty similar to Duntryleague, the greens are tough. It’s alright getting there, but once you do putts go different ways to what you’re expecting, so it being similar was a bit of an advantage I guess.
“I got ahead and just gave her nothing from then on really, but Nikki played well, it was good for both of us.”
Duntryleague’s Sandra Schultz made sure the host club had at least one piece of silverware, taking out the 55-59 years division convincingly.
Schultz was seeded number one, and went on to beat fourth seed Rhonda Magner, of Concord, 5 and 3 in the semi-final before defeating Manly’s Anne Hutchison 4 and 3 in the decider.
“I was surprised I’d qualified number one, and was fortunate enough to play well (in the semi and final),” Schultz said.
“I had a couple of patches where I was a bit rough, a few missed putts, and I haven’t played 36 holes in a day in quite a while.
“I thoroughly enjoyed it, it was an awesome experience.”
In the 60-64 years division Narooma’s Sylvia Donohue triumphed 5 and 4 over Concord’s Margaret Bain-Smith, while Royal Canberra’s Liz Smyth defeated Federal Golf Club’s Nicky Moon 2 and 1 in the 65-69 years competition.
Concord’s Joyce Williamson won the 70 plus category, with a comfortable 7 and 5 win over Duntryleague’s Val Pollack.
