With a storm similar to that of 1996 Hollywood blockbuster Twister spearing toward Orange all afternoon and eventually dumping - anecdotally - 90 plus millimetres of rain, every other scheduled game in town failed to reach a result, and had many players asking if Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton were on their way to save the day.
However, the green and golds’ performance was so dominant, the victory, and title, was secured before the heavens opened with CYMS Kellys scoring a comfortable five-wicket win.
With Cavaliers batting first, CYMS’ Kieren Beattie took 4-14 from his two-and-a-half overs to help his side bowl the maroons out for just 57.
Max Pearce was the only Cavaliers batsman to reach double figures, scoring 19.
In reply CYMS Kellys used just 12 of its overs to reach the target, with Cameron Thomas (26) and Jeremy Finlayson (14 not out) the best with the willow.
Maroons’ off-spinner Hugh Middleton did his best to keep Cavaliers in the game, taking 3-25 from his four overs.
In second grade, Michael Hannelly continued his stellar run of 2014-15 form, punching his first ton for CYMS against Cavaliers.
Hannelly finished 102 not out in CYMS’ total of 5-183, with Shane Hume (29) the only other batsman to pass 20.
Hannelly’s knock included 13 boundaries, equating to over half of his runs.
Cavaliers faced just two overs before the match was washed out.
