IN response to Mr Curry’s letter “Fence the hoons out of Glenroi Oval” (CWD January 10), the Orange Hockey community has had a continued problem with vandalism and abuse of players/volunteers/parents within this area for many years.

Even with the installation of the school fencing, some members of the Glenroi community still cut or spread existing fencing to take short cuts to their destination.
To the offenders, surely it would be quicker to utilise the footpaths than carry spreaders, bolt cutters or pliers to damage the property of the hockey community, and I have no doubt it would be a lot safer than lifting your children in strollers over our fences.
Orange Hockey has spent a considerable amount of its fundraising money to combat this behaviour but as yet have not found a suitable solution.
Mr Curry, OHI wish you every success in your endeavours with Orange City Council to fence the area but feel that the education of the children in the area may be the best way to change their attitudes and again respect for the property of the Orange community in general.
Michelle Stevenson,
President Orange Hockey Incorporate (OHI)
