The vision of parishioners and their vicar Ben Edwards, Sundays in Spring is one of many events St John’s Anglican Church community has put on since a grand piano was donated.
“Last year someone very generously donated a concert grand piano, and so we are trying to put on concerts to make the most of that gift, and enjoy the ambience of the church,” Reverend Edwards said.
“The community has very enthusiastically jumped on board with the concept. I think people enjoy the relaxed atmosphere. People have commented that they enjoy having something like this in Molong when they’re used to going further afield. People really appreciate having it in their backyards.”
Reverend Edwards, on piano, and Andrew Baker, on violin, will perform Beethoven’s Sonata No 5 (1801), known as The Spring Sonata.
Meriel Owen will perform three preludes for piano, The Girl with the Flaxen Hair, Footsteps in the Snow and The Wine Gate, by French impressionist composer, Claude Debussy, and Mrs Owen will join Ming Chan for a piano duet from the Petite Suite composed by Claude Debussy in the late 1880s.
Reverend Edwards said he hoped a full house of 120 would fill the church, on the corner of Edward and Bank streets Molong. Cost is $20 for adults and includes refreshments, and children are free. Tickets are available on the door.
