RACING was tight at the Colour City Dragons annual regatta last Sunday.
Teams from across the region as well as Sydney and Canberra were at Lake Canobolas to test themselves in cool conditions.
Colour City Dragons president Ian Sawtell said it was a great day of competition.
“The racing all day was very close,” Sawtell said.
“We got lucky with the weather. It didn’t rain. It all went off well and there were a lot of happy faces.”
When it came to the sports races for regular dragon boat crews, it was combined teams that usually enjoyed success.
In the Sports Men’s 10s, a combined crew from Lithgow, and Sydney’s Mavericks (Pyrmont) and Pendragons (Penrith) were first across the line.
In second place was the Lachlan Dragons from Forbes, who combined with Bathurst.
The Colour City Dragons came in third with a few crew members from Dubbo’s Outback Dragons.
In the schools event, James Sheahan Catholic High School went one-two.
The Lithgow-Mavericks combination came out on top in the Sports Mixed final, ahead of Pendragons, with Lachlan Dragons third.
The Sports Women’s final was taken out by Canberra’s Diamond Phoenix, with Lithgow-Mavericks second and Bathurst-Lachlan third.
Transgrid were clear winners in the Community final for the second year in a row.
However the battle for the minor placings was tight.
The Orange Christian School was second, edging out Stroke It Molong.
“It was very, very tight except for Transgrid,” Sawtell explained.
“There was only a few tenths of a second between second and third.”
The Colour City Dragons will be back on the water on November 30 for the Wagga Wagga Dragon Boat Challenge.
