Both Spotlight and Balloons As Well The Party Shop have been busy in the lead-up to today’s festivities with both stores reporting selling out of various supernatural theme items and costumes.
Orange Spotlight crafts manager Heather Symons said she was surprised by the popularity of Halloween this year and was almost out of costumes.
“It’s been a lot bigger than I thought for Halloween, we are basically out of our Halloween stuff, it’s been selling really well,” Ms Symons said.
“It’s been more for adults, for private parties, I think a lot of people are doing Halloween barbecues.
“We’ve only been open since August 21, that’s why I’m surprised.”
Balloons As Well The Party Shop employee Paige Tonkin said she has noticed Halloween become more popular, while owner Rebecca Lloyd said they were almost out of children’s costumes.
“It’s picked up quite a lot this year in comparison to previous years, I think it’s just getting bigger and bigger,” Miss Tonkin said.
“Because it’s on a Friday it just fits together for having a get- together,” Ms Lloyd said.
Ms Lloyd said special effects make-up was a new trend for adults this year with people dressing up as zombies inspired by The Walking Dead TV show.
“We had it [special effects make-up] last year but this year more and more people are seeing what it does and it’s a lot of fun to play with,” she said.
