Many families are unable to celebrate the holiday as they can’t afford it.
This year Anglicare is hoping to change that.
The team at the Western NSW Anglicare regional office have been running a pantry appeal for the past six months in the hope of putting food on the table for any local families in need.
Anglicare administrative assistant Christie McGuirk said with Christmas on the way it was important for the community to pitch in and donate.
“The community has been very generous, however we’re still running out of food items faster than we can keep up,” Ms McGuirk said.
Any non-perishable items can be donated such as cans of food, pasta and rice, as well as toys and activities for the kids, books and toiletries.
Ms McGuirk said the families who received the donations were appreciative.
“Some people come into the office a little embarrassed but their reaction is ultimate gratitude,” she said.
Ms McGuirk urges the public to dig deep and take a look in the cupboards for anything they can donate.
Anyone in the community can donate and items can be dropped off at the Anglicare office at 1 Hampden Avenue in Orange.
