Cr Gryllis, who voiced his support to import coffee from Mount Hagen in PNG after three councillors visited Orange’s sister city last month, said the council had begun to source the first bag for sampling.
Factory Espresso’s Bill Parianos, who already sources coffee from PNG, has voiced an interest in trying the coffee.
“It’s not going to be easy trying to arrange [the beans] but what Bill [Parianos] wants first is to test the quality and once it’s established that’s it’s suitable, there will be opportunities to put in a bigger order,” Cr Gryllis said.
The bid to nurture Orange’s sister city relationships is only one of the goals the mayor and deputy have for the year.
Cr Davis said the economy was a priority.
“We have a few announcements we’re working on for the Electrolux challenge - whether it’s the southern feeder road, the private hospital or the fuel stop and fast food restaurants in north Orange, it’s all about getting new jobs,” he said.
“The economy has been a challenge, more so in the last six months, and we’ve got to make sure as a council that we continue to be positive.”
Cr Gryllis said completing the airport and museum were also priorities.
