Branding Panthers the “team to beat”, Gibson says his side is headed to Bathurst prepared to throw caution to the wind in a bid to qualify for a second-consecutive grand final.
“Look, we’ve got nothing to lose,” Gibson deadpanned.
“We’ve got a second chance at it. Worse case scenario we’re playing again next weekend (against Bathurst St Pat’s or Lithgow Workies), so there’s no excuse not to go out there and have a red hot crack at it this week.”
Buoyed by a resounding 20-0 thumping of CYMS in last year’s grand final, Panthers backed up their first meeting against the green and golds in 2014 with an identical score line back in round five.
The round 14 clash was much closer with Panthers clinching a 6-4 victory.
Although Gibson insists his side isn’t playing at its best at present, CYMS are still capable of beating Panthers.
“We beat them in this corresponding game last year to be first into the grand final,” the coach said.
“It’d be great to be able to do that again.”
The Group 10 league tag major semi-final begins at 10.30am at Carrington Park, Bathurst.
