IF you believe the Will Ferrell-inspired Nascar legend Ricky Bobby, if you’re not first you’re last.

And Orange CYMS want the first place in this year’s first division grand final - badly.

“We definitely don’t want to lose this one and head into an elimination game,” green and golds first division player-coach Luke Morris said, his side set to face minor premiers Bathurst St Pat’s in Sunday’s major semi-final at Carrington Park.

“We want to be that first team into the grand final.”

After a sluggish start, CYMS destroyed last year’s premiers Bathurst Panthers 34-4 to win last weekend’s qualifying semi-final.

Now on the doorstep of a grand final berth, CYMS have the runs on the board against St Pat’s following a 25-20 victory in the two sides’ opening clash of 2014 and a 14-6 win in the final regular season round of the year.

Those scores, though, means nothing if you ask Morris.

“It’s a different ball game now,” he said.

“They’ve got plenty of numbers as well. I think they rested a few in that last game of the year so it’s hard to say. They’re good right across the park.

“But like I said last week, for (Panthers) to only score the one try off a kick last weekend is a good sign.

“All of the boys are up for the game.”

Winning their opening 11 games before dropping the next three, Morris says his side’s season regained momentum after smashing Mudgee 84-6.

Sunday’s game kicks off at 1pm at Carrington Park.
