The 2014 Mill2Mill, a 630 kilometre-plus bike ride from the Manildra Group’s Bomaderry (Nowra) plant to the Manildra Flour Mill undertaken by 43 riders, raised over $114,000 - a similar amount to that raised in the 2012 and 2013 rides combined.
The massive remainder will be split between the McGrath Foundation, local schools and community groups, as well as five small schools that hosted the riders during the event.
The presentation took place at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Manildra, coinciding with a visit from the beyondblue National Roadshow - an initiative to raise awareness about anxiety and depression, and highlight the resources available to help sufferers.
“We chose beyondblue [as a charity to donate to] as we believe it is undertaking vital work in highlighting the importance of seeking help for anxiety and depression,” Mill2Mill organiser and MSM Milling director Pete Mac Smith said.
“Depression is a cause close to the hearts of the local Manildra community, with several young people losing their lives last year alone.”
Mr MacSmith hailed the businesses and individuals for their donations, and said the charities were not the only ones to benefit from the ride.
“Overall I feel the Mill2Mill has made a huge difference, not only to the national charities we’ve supported, but to the small regional groups we financially helped and the small centres we travelled through,” he explained.
“It is an honour to be able to hand over this money to such worthy recipients. We must thank everyone who donated to the event. We were absolutely humbled by the size of some of the donations from regional residents and businesses.
“Without their support, our event wouldn’t have been so successful,”
Planning for the 2016 Mill2Mill - a bi-annual event - will begin shortly.
