WHILE the fierce rivalry between Orange City Rugby Club and Emus Rugby Club will be centre stage during the rugby union derby on Saturday, there will be something else in the back of Lions players’ minds as they run onto the field.

Two members of Orange City are undergoing treatment for cancer, so the club has decided to use Saturday’s game at Waratah Sports Club to raise funds for Camp Quality and pancreatic cancer research.
The club asked Rob Westcott, who has participated in Camp Quality’s annual Tractor Trek since it began, to help pass donation buckets around at half time of the first grade game.
“One of the juniors in under 12s has cancer, and he’s part of the Camp Quality program, so we’ll be raising money for them,” Mr Westcott said.
“And one of the senior members has pancreatic cancer, so we’ll split the money raised between Camp Quality and pancreatic cancer research.”
Funds will also be raised through a raffle on the day, and Orange City president Steven Stone hopes all spectators will donate to the cause.
“Being a local derby, I think people will understand these people are connected to rugby and a part of the rugby community,” he said.
“I think many people will know them too.
“This is our way of helping out, of trying to ease the burden and the pain both of our members are going through.”
