THE central west is facing large scale job redundancies by the end of next year and it’s all the more reason to come down to the Central West Job Expo according to project co-ordinator Tamara James.

Major employers in Orange and Bathurst recently announced closures or downsizing, including Electrolux, Downer EDI and Simplot which would lead to around 1100 job losses in Calare.

The Central West Job Expo, on Thursday at the Function Centre from 9am until 3pm, is designed to put employers and training providers face-to-face with people looking for work.

“It will be the biggest expo yet,” Ms James said.

In its 14th year, the expo will feature 81 exhibitors including newcomers such as Australian Racing and Equine Academy, Crowe Horwath, Antipodeans Abroad, Digital Careers, Hotel Management Institute and Woolworths.

Old hands at the expo, MSM Milling, is back to find employees to fill various positions created by the commissioning of a new feed mill at the site in Manildra.

“The expansion brings with it exciting employment opportunities for feedmill operators, as well as refinery process operators and yard staff. MSM is also looking for a QA manager,” director of MSM Milling Pete Mac Smith said.

Committee member Sallyanne Shuttleworth said there had been a large increase in interest from businesses from across NSW with an additional 19 exhibitors on board this year.

“We really want to expand the knowledge base this year and appeal to students,” she said.

With 1200 students coming from schools in the central west and organisations such as Skillset turning up on the day, the committee will have plenty of opportunity to show them what their futures could hold.
