Members of the school’s Student Representative Council (SRC) presented staff at the children’s ward with more than 100 books on Friday, for children between the ages of three and 17.
Every term, students hold fundraisers to help out a different charity or cause.
SRC coordinator Kerry Stokes said every year during term two Orange Health Service benefited from the children’s efforts.
“The kids came up with the idea themselves. Recently we had a few of our students in and out of the hospital and they all said they were bored when they were there, so we decided we would buy the hospital some more books,” Ms Stokes said.
“They haven’t had any new books there for a while and in the past have had to rely solely on donations from people, which are often quite tattered.”
During last term, the school held a pizza and football day, which raised more than $650 and allowed the SRC to buy books at a discounted rate from Scholastic Press and Collins Booksellers.
The school also received donations of books from families and Ms Stokes said the whole school community had been very generous.
“It’s nice to give back to the people who’ve looked after some of our kids so well,” she said.
“I think the students deserve a big pat on the back.”
