Late last week two Illawarra brigade members drove a tanker to Orange to be used on loan until other arrangements can be made to replace the damaged tankers.
It was RFS assets and infrastructure officer Steve Smith who was on hand to accept the keys to the loan tanker.
“As you can imagine the fire, which occurred last month destroying the two tankers and badly damaging the shed, was absolutely devastating,” Mr Smith said. “This gesture will go a long way to providing the necessary infrastructure we need until replacement tankers arrive.”
The RFS shed on Moorbel Road east of Canowindra was broken into in early June with thieves and arsonists stealing equipment before setting fire to the two tankers inside. The blaze caused hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of damage to the tanks and the shed housing the vehicles.
“It really was a big blow to Moorbel,” Mr Smith said.
Inspector Dave Harvey of Orange Police said no arrests had been made yet and the police investigation into the incident is continuing.
