The NSW Country side will travel to the Northern Queensland Region on July 5 to play against the Queensland Country under 16s and also a Samoan team.
The front-rower’s selection came after he played in the Country Rugby League Regional Championship under 16s final for the Western Rams against the Greater Northern Tigers on Saturday.
Bastick credits the effort he showed both in defence and attack for his selection in the NSW Country under 16s side.
“I had a pretty good defensive game, I controlled the ruck well. I also worked hard in attack to get a quick play the ball to help my team get a bit of a roll on,” he said.
Bastick isn’t new to representative footy after being picked to play for the Group 10 side since he was 13 and also the Western Rams team this year.
The Canberra Raiders have also shown interest in Bastick as they invited him to participate in their country training program this year.
“I was involved in the country camp, they get all the country boys into the Raiders camp and we trained and had a hit out against their SG ball side,” he explained.
The Western Rams 16s side lost to the Greater Northern Tigers on Saturday 34-6 and Bastick blames the team having an off day.
“We have played a lot better, we didn’t play as a team, it was really disappointing, but it happens every once in a while,” Bastick said.
