So many Orange parents, childcare workers and health professionals will be interested in the visit to Orange of one of Australia’s gurus in the field of toddler tactics and settling your baby at the weekend.
Pinky McKay, the best selling author of Sleeping Like a Baby and Toddler Tactics is being brought to Orange by the Orange Group of the Australian Breastfeeding Association, with funds raised by the through trivia nights.
For young Orange mother Kristy Armstrong having a toddler who didn’t want to sleep came as a rude shock after her first baby who slept through from six weeks.
“We have tried everything from sleeping her in with us to putting her back in her own bed - nothing seemed to work,” she said.
Monica Hughes, who has a 15-month-old and is 13 weeks pregnant with her second child, says she’s come to realise there are no simple solutions when it comes to settling a baby or toddler.
“Finally you do seem to work it out when you rule out all the possibilities such as feeding and changing, but I have to admit there were times when my husband and I just looked at each other wondering what to do next,” she said.
Mrs Hughes says she will be attending the seminar as it is important to recognise the different response needs of babies.
“I’m sure this baby will be different to the first,” she said.
Educator with Orange the breast feeding group Carrie Cox said the organisation doesn’t support one method of parenting above another.
“It’s all about natural and gentle parenting but we thought by hosting this sessions with Pinky we will be able to support parents and childcare workers - it’s all about getting that extra information, ”she said.
The More Than Milk seminar incorporating the topics of Sleeping Like a Baby and Toddler Tactics will be held at Orange Ex-Services’ Club in the Coral Sea Room on Saturday.
The Sleeping Like a Baby session runs from 10am until midday with Toddler Tactics running from 2 - 4pm.
A marketplace session featuring businesses and service for parents, families children and babies will follow.
