The students have all been assigned to work with acute care patients at the hospital, including the intensive care unit.
One of the students, Chris Howard, from Epping in Sydney, said he was impressed with the hospital.
“It is a very smart layout with the various departments in relatively close proximity to each other,” he said.
“It is very high-tech.”
His colleague, Eloise Cook, who attends the same university, said she hadn’t decided yet what area of training she would specialise in as part of her career path.
“I am just trying to get as much experience as I can and keep my options open,” she said.
Supervising physiotherapist Peter Young said the students were working on assessing acute care patients to try and get patients moving as quickly as possible so they could start in rehabilitation programs, which will ultimately speed up their discharge from hospital.
The students from the Catholic university are the first group of physiotherapy students to train at the university and to come to Orange to gain more experience before they graduate.
