THE solemn ceremony at the Lone Pine, on the corner of Bathurst Road and Lone Pine Avenue, holds a special significance for descendants of the men who fought at Gallipoli and for the Returned Services League.
The tree was planted from a cutting brought back to Orange from Lone Pine, where many Australian soldiers were killed or wounded in the epic eight-hour battle.
During the battle five Australian soldiers earned the highest honour of the Military Cross for their bravery on the battlefield.
A wreath was laid at the base of the tree on Friday by Captain Greg Laxton of the Royal Australian Navy, who was Orange's Anzac Day guest and took part in the ceremony with members of the RSL and Member for Orange Andrew Gee.
The group then moved on for similar services at The Crematorium and Orange Cemetery.
