Like most sides that year and the next, they left with their tails between their legs.
On Saturday they return to Orange City's fortress hoping to continue the momentum created by their dramatic round-one win over arch-rivals Narromine Gorillas.
Central Western Daily Sports Editor Michelle Cook and her colleague Nick McGrath say it's mission impossible, with both tipping another win for the Lions, who are fresh off their own miracle win over Parkes.
Speaking of the Boars, they will play host to Bathurst Bulldogs on Saturday and will be looking to put the disappointment of Saturday's last-gasp loss behind them.
It won't be easy, with a vastly improved Bulldogs outfit eager to make it back-to-back wins to start their season.
Nick predicts Bathurst will take the spoils, while Cookie thinks the Boars home-ground advantage will prove decisive.
Two sides desperate for winner's points are Orange Emus and CSU Bathurst, who are both coming off first-up losses and clash at the latter's home ground.
Both Cookie and Nick agree the greens looked the better in the first round and should prove too strong.
Narromine Gorillas will play host to Forbes Platypi, with the two sides enjoying contrasting fortunes last Saturday.
The Platypi forgot to roll out the red carpet to Blowes Clothing Cup newcomers Mudgee Wombats, who they thrashed 55-5, while the Gorillas suffered a heart-breaking 22-16 loss to traditional rivals Roos.
Once again Nick and Cookie are in agreement, with both tipping Narromine to open their account for 2014.
Finally, Mudgee will welcome Cowra Eagles to Jubilee Oval in a game that threatens to be one-sided.
The Eagles sit atop the premiership ladder courtesy of a 61-5 thrashing of CSU on the weekend, while the Wombats were at the other end of the spectrum, suffering a hammering against Forbes.
Cookie and Nick can't see a change in either side's fortunes on Saturday, with Cowra tipped to run up a big score.
