Acting general manager Merv Bilske said the expo was a good opportunity to talk with people thinking about re-training to work in the transport industry.
“We employ 115 drivers in Orange, as well as another 50 employees in administration, in the workshop and in warehousing,” he said.
“That means we’re usually hiring around 30 new workers a year from normal turnover, mostly drivers.
“As well as the people who are currently employed by Electrolux, there are many more employees who work for their plant’s associated transport and logistics companies who could potentially bring their skills to work for us.”
Mr Bilske says some Electrolux workers may need to retrain, so the expo will give them a chance to ask their questions and work out if working for the transport company is for them.
“A HC (heavy combination) licence can take some time to get, so it’s good that they explore their options,” he said.
The Jobs Expo will be held from 10am to 3pm on Friday at the Orange Ex-Services’ Club.
It is being organised by Electrolux and Orange City Council, with assistance from the NSW and federal governments, and is free for job-seekers.
