The interruption to the power supply was detected at around 6.40am, cutting off electricity supplies to homes and businesses in parts of Summer Street, McNamara Street, March Street and Peisley Street.
The traffic lights at the corner of Lords Place and Peisley Street were also affected by the power interruption.
Essential Energy's regional manager for the south eastern area Phillip Green said a team from the Orange Depot was dispatched immediately after the fault was detected to investigate and determine the cause.
"Attending crews discovered damaged power lines on the overhead network at the corner of March Street and Lords Place," Mr Green said.
"Essential Energy crews were able to isolate the affected area and restore power to customers just before 7.30am."
Mr Green said crews work throughout the morning to complete network repairs.
"I'd like to thank the local community for its patience while our local crews worked to complete the repairs and restore power to the affected customers," Mr Green said.
