WHO can stop Lithgow Panthers and Bathurst St Pats from going back to back?
That's the big question as the region's best hockey players prepare to start another Premier League Hockey campaign.
According to Fairfax sport journalists Nick McGrath and Matt Findlay 2013's champions Panthers (men) and St Pats (women) will again feature prominently at the business end of the season, with their respective runners-up Bathurst Souths and the Panthers girls sure to push them all the way.
With ten teams again vying for top honours the ladies were be out for early competition points when they took to the pitch on Saturday.
In round one action Dubbo Blue Jays went down 2-1 to Bathurst Souths, Bathurst City accounted for Kinross CYMS 1-nil, Panthers demolished Orange Ex-Services 6-nil, Confederates drew with St Pats 2-all and Parkes made the long trip to Lithgow worthwhile by downing Zig Zag 3-2.
For the men the competition gets underway on Saturday, April 12, with a brace of derbies sure to start the the season in style.
Lithgow Zig Zag will host Panthers, Souths will welcome St Pats and Orange Wanderers will head east to face Parkes United.
