Orange City has Kinross, top-two berth in its sights

“WE can’t take Kinross lightly.”

Despite searching for an outright win in one of the final two Orange District Cricket Association first grade round games to catapult his team into the top two, Orange City vice-captain Lincoln Duncan says respect is of utmost importance when the Warriors take on the students at Wade Park today.

Despite having won just three games, and being in fifth, Kinross provide Orange City with a difficult prospect, Duncan said.

“They have some very good young cricketers. We beat them easily last time we played them, and they have been struggling recently, but their unpredictability makes them very dangerous,” he said.

“But when we played them at Riawena it tooks us 40 overs to get a wicket. We’re going out to win, but it will be tough I think.”

Orange City currently sits third, six points behind second-placed Cavaliers and 12 behind competition leaders CYMS.

“Bowling Cavaliers out for 50 is no mean feat and I think we’re easily the best bowling side in this competition"

“We effectively need to get outright wins in both our final two games to have a chance of coming first or second,” Duncan said.

“Do-able, but unrealistic, I daresay rain will stop us anyway. But we aren’t thinking about Centrals in the last round. We’re concentrating on securing first innings points against Kinross, and we’ll go from there. We’re still improving, and moving closer to where we need to be come finals time.”

Duncan said the Warriors bowlers were proving almost unstoppable in season 2013-14, and hoped they continued the trend.

“Bowling Cavaliers out for 50 is no mean feat and I think we’re easily the best bowling side in this competition,” Duncan said.

“I didn’t play, but I’ve seen the card, and 11 of them were sundries. It could have been under 40.

“Our bowlers are red-hot at the moment and I can’t see that changing. If we keep bowling well, and our batting order continues to be consistent we should get a win today, and be hard to beat in the future.”
