GROUP 10 teams face a bye, across all grades, each round after the controversial expulsion of the Blackheath Blackcats from the 2014 season.
Group 10 released a proposed 2014 draw last week, minus Blackheath, even though the decision was under appeal.
The proposed draw gives Orange rugby league fans something to look forward to, despite the Blackcats being left out.
Hawks are listed to take on CYMS in a round one local derby and grand final rematch.
Considering last year’s grand final between the two teams netted more than $50,000, the fixture makes sense.
Hawks captain-coach Tim Mortimer said he was pleased to get the early shot at CYMS.
“We played CYMS in round one last year as well,” he said.
“With the way last year finished for both teams, and the grand final being so big, I’m not at all surprised they’ve put us against CYMS first up again.
“It’ll be pretty exciting to be a part of that first round.”
Group 10 president Linore Zamparini explained the difference in the draw was due to ground availability, and Blackheath being left out.
“Most of the time we run a draw for two years at a time,” he said.
“One year it will run as set, and then it will be reversed the next year. This draw is different to last year’s because some clubs, Mudgee were one, don’t have a ground available at the start of the season. Most clubs are happy with this draft, but you can’t please everyone.
“The actual draw should be confirmed in the next two weeks, hopefully by mid-January.”
