The Chargers, which featured a number of Orange City first grade players, went through the day undefeated to win the crown.
Chargers player Ollie Stone said it was a fun day for the side.
“It was a great day. We really enjoyed it,” Stone said.
“We’ve all got together a few times this year. We played at Bondi in the 10s and we went to Gosford but it got washed out.”
Despite the obviously strong line-up, Stone said they didn’t expect to win.
“We thought the Island Boys and the Aidan Brice All Stars would be good,” he explained.
The Chargers started with an easy 53-5 win over Kings Old Boys and backed it up with a 22-13 victory over the Central West Colts.
Stone said the Colts tested them.
“The colts were really enthusiastic. They put it to us. I’m glad we got out of that one,” he said.
The Chargers took on Orange Emus in the semi-final and came away with a solid 29-5 victory.
They then took on defending champions, the Island Boys, in the final.
The Chargers were able to secure a 29-12 victory.
“That was pretty tough,” Stone said of the decider.
“They had a pretty hard lead-up to the final and we thought they’d be tired. We tried to spin the ball around as much as we could and it paid off. We had a few fast guys like Ben McAlpine, who was pretty unstoppable.”
To add to their celebrations, Stone and teammate James Sheridan were named the tournament’s joint best and fairest.
“I don’t know how that happened,” Stone laughed.
“James and I played together in Holland so that was good we won together.”
The Central West Colts won their semi-final 27-7 over Orange City before winning the Plate final 26-10 against Bathurst Bulldogs.
Orange Aggies took out the Bowl final by edging out Hellfish 12-10.
