The parkland that runs alongside the creek in Margaret and Jilba Streets will be overhauled with new landscaping, bike tracks, walking trails and seating areas.
The area will also be used to stage community events and will include an area designated to showcasing indigenous artworks.
Orange city councilor Ron Gander, who is also president of the Bowen Residents Action Group (BRAG), expects the area will be well utilised by the Bowen community.
"The people of Bowen have worked very hard to bring the standard of the area up and things like this (upgrade) also help with law and order," Mr Gander said.
"It helps improve the atmosphere of the area and it also helps people take ownership."
Work on the park will begin in the next couple of months and is due to be completed by the end of the year.
