Kicking off its 2012 campaign at Sir Neville Howse Stadium in style, the home club took out the silver and bronze in the level one senior overall event while Jasmine Dodd added three apparatus silvers to her second overall, with Rose Thoms doing the same with bronze.

The acrobatic gymnastics was the first session of competition yesterday morning, with 11 new country champions crowned.

The overall acrobatic gymnastics trophy went down to the wire between North Coast Academy of Gymnastics (Lismore) and Central Coast Gymnastics Academy.

Only one point separated the two with North Coast taking the overall country championship crown.

The afternoon’s competition saw rhythmic gymnastics begin in style, as the level one and two gymnasts competed in freehand, rope, hoop and ball.

The Queanbeyan YMCA club from just outside of Canberra proved strong competition, taking out all four level one and two overall titles through Amelia Hassett (level 1 junior), Maddison Lustri (Level 1 senior), Remy McDougall (Level 2 junior) and Chloe Geering (Level 2 Senior).

The rhythmic gymnastics continues today, whilst women’s gymnastics also gets underway.

Come and Try sessions will be held throughout the day, a free participation opportunity for children aged between 5 and 12.
