ORANGE'S Dirt Bike Promotions have hailed this Saturday's Orange Supercross as a night for families.
The event will be an alcohol free event. No alcohol will be sold at the event or allowed into the grounds.
The company has been promoting supercross and stadium motocross events at the Orange Showground for the past eight years and admits that it has been a rollercoaster ride, especially when a small number of people cause trouble usually due to intoxication.
"It's very frustrating especially when the majority of the crowd are able to behave themselves, but unfortunately the troublemakers can sometimes ruin it for everyone and taint the sport,'' said Bruce Sargent, director of Dirt Bike Promotions.
"The company has re-evaluated our security and crowd control measures and has opted to choose to promote an alcohol free event in the best interests of all involved.
"This may not be everyone's cup of tea but since the advertising of the alcohol free event began five weeks ago, we have received nothing but positive feedback from everyone in the community and we are very happy with our decision.
"Everyone wants to know that they can go out and enjoy an event like the supercross without the worries sometimes associated with drunken behaviour.''
Sargent said other attractions include a fireworks spectacular, jumping castles, kids' rides and 'plenty of food'.
"All eskies and bags will be checked at the ticket gate,'' he said. "Anyone intoxicated will not be permitted in, so leave the beers at home until after the event and come and enjoy a great night out.''
Gates open at 3pm with the night program starting from from 6pm. Tickets are available at the gate or at Sam Laws Motorcycles. Adults $25, kids $15 (under 14), family $72 (two adults, two kids).
