Orange’s under 12s had a brilliant finish to their first Netball NSW Stage Age Championships division two campaign at Maitland yesterday.
The Sally Wilson-coached side, competing for the first time at this level, won four and drew two of their six matches yesterday to finish in the top half of the competition.
Orange beat Parramatta-Auburn (17-8), Tamworth (16-10), Macleay (23-2), Inner Western Suburbs (17-13) and also played out draws against Cessnock (12-all) and Great Lakes (13-all) yesterday to finish ninth out of the 20 teams in their division.
The injury-hit under 14s team, coached by Leighanne Ward, had a tougher day yesterday but finished strongly with a 17-all draw against Central West rivals Dubbo and a 14-11 win over Inner Western Suburbs.
The side’s 10 wins from their 19 matches was also good enough to finish in the top half of the field as they came home ninth out of 19 teams.
Orange’s under 13s and under 15s outfits found the going tougher but still produced strong performances.
The Cindy Gilchrist-coached under 13s won two of their seven matches yesterday against Tamworth (19-14) and Parramatta-Auburn (15-9) to bring their number of wins to five over the three days.
This saw the team finish 15th out of 19 sides.
Mardi Aplin’s under 15s team got off to a great start yesterday with wins over Parramatta-Auburn (17-15) and Grafton (21-13), before adding a 22-11 win against Kurri Kurri to their tally in the afternoon.
The under 15s’ seven wins and 12 losses over the three-day event saw them finish 15th out of 20 teams.
