CONGRATULATIONS to Fred and Sue Gander after winning the regional play-off in the NSW Keno Mixed 4BBB last Sunday. Their winning score of 45 points now earns them a spot in the final at Bonville Golf Resort (Australia’s Augusta National) near Coffs Harbour.
Tomorrow at the Country Club, the men will be playing an individual stroke event while on Sunday, the Wally Dean Cup sponsored by Western Battery Company, reaches the semi-final stage kicking off at 9am. In the first match Alan Gordon and Craig Dickerson do battle with Steve Cassell and John Grevink, while Mick Pickett and Bruce Glover take on Gav Hassan and Gary Hillier.
Last Saturday, the men played a four-ball best ball stableford in the annual Captain’s versus President’s day with the Captain’s team finishing on top by a very narrow margin. Glen Beattie and David Reeve posted 47 to finish on top of the scoring ledger just ahead of Mick Pickett and Bruce Glover with 45 points while Craig Dickerson emptied the eagle’s nest after posting a three on the par five sixth hole.
Long drives on the sixth hole went to Quintyn Fisher in A grade, Robbie McGaw in B grade and Peter Iffland in C grade while Roger Dunn won the A grade drive and pitch on the third, with Jim Norris taking out B grade on the 13th and Fred Gander bagging C grade on the fifth. Luke Pecoski snared the A grade nearest the pin on the eighth with Jim Norris winning B grade and Graeme Morcom getting C grade, while on the 16th, Quintyn Fisher nailed the A grade with Robbie McGaw taking out B grade and the C grade not won. David Reeve went closest on the 11th to win the pro ball comp with John A Davis, Noel Ostini, Tony Partridge and Greg Bartimote also winning golf balls.
Last Sunday the Wally Dean Cup quarter-finals teed off with Quintyn Fisher and Jay Neville forced to forfeit their match against Alan Gordon and Craig Dickerson due to an illness and an unforeseen commitment. In other matches, Steve Cassell and John Grevink had a convincing 6 and 5 win over John A Davis and Ray Jones, Mick Pickett and Bruce Glover defeated Nick Bolton and Brett Quick 3 and 2 while Gav Hassan and Gary Hillier had a 4 and 2 win over Manfred Homann and Peter Powles.
All members are reminded to maintain the up keep of their spikes after a “slip up” on Saturday. President Peter was involved in an altercation with a tree and vice-president Russell’s personal golf cart. “My foot slipped” was the reported quote from the president. Meanwhile the rest of the group was dumbfounded as to how on earth this could happen.
Further to this, members should be aware of where they leave their fruit, after president Peter also managed to squash vice-president Russell’s fresh Orange shortly after. Luckily for president Peter, vice-president Russell is a doctor and understands that some people are just accident prone. President Peter has now been told he will have to hire a cart in future, and not share one! It has been made clear though that despite the comedy of errors, somehow their friendship remains in tact.
