PREPARATIONS for the 2010 Western Youth League season are already underway.
The Orange Football Association has already appointed representative coaches for next year and team trials are just weeks away.
A feature of the plans for 2010 is the return of girls’ representative teams which OFA junior vice-president Richard Gathercole said they are keen to develop.
“This is the first time we have had the girls for quite a few years,” Gathercole said.
“It’s a been a goal for us for a while. A lot of girls play in Orange and Bathurst. The girls need to be shown they can play at a rep level.”
Michael Phillips has been appointed the 16 girls coach while coaches are still needed for the 12 and 14 girls teams.
Other coaches who have been appointed are Matthew Sloane (10 boys), David Cummings (11 boys), David Norris (12 boys), Matt Savaro (13 boys), Richard Gathercole (14 boys) and Graham Everett (15 boys).
A coach is still needed for the 16 boys side.
Trials for all the Orange representative sides will be held at Jack Brabham Park on September 6 and 20 from 1pm.
Twenty-player squads will be selected for each age division and teams will be finalised following the 2010 club sign-ons.
The OFA is hoping to build on the success celebrated in 2009 where the 12 and 14 boys won their Western Youth League titles and the 13s claimed the NSW Country Cup.
Coach David Norris said the association was taking a more professional approach to the representative season which they hope will show benefits.
The coaches encouraged all players who are interested in the representative sides to attend the trials next month.
