Centrals posted 190 on day one last weekend after CYMS quick Sam Dwyer claimed 4-31 to put the green and golds in a good position against the defending premiers.
Opening pair Dave Neil (10 not out) and John Warrington (7no) then capitalised on its side’s good bowling, surviving a tricky period late last Saturday to have CYMS at 0-24 at stumps.
Neil, however, is away this weekend.
His place will be taken by Adam Smith.
CYMS skipper Dean Turner is happy with the way his side fought against Centrals last week.
“At the start of the day, if you’d have given me Bowen (Centrals) all out for 190 I would have taken it,” Turner said.
“We still need to bat well, obviously. I think we’ve chipped 24 runs off the total. I think the biggest thing for us will be batting in partnerships, if we can do that it should help.”
And against a strong Centrals bowling attack, CYMS are going to have to work hard for its runs.
Turner said it was a matter of seeing off Centrals’ three-pronged pace attack and then making the most of the part-timers.
“Obviously their bowling attack is good,” Turner said.
“Sanga (Dan Sandford), Mitch Harvey and Mark Wiegold, that’s pretty much the opening three for (the) Orange (rep side). That’s the biggest thing for us. We want to see off the new ball and make the most of it when their part-timers come on.”
However, Centrals captain Adam Shepherd believes it won’t be that easy.
He said the likes of Jarrod Simpson, Wes Roweth and young spinner Nick Duffy will make life just as tough for CYMS as Centrals’ pace attack will.
“It’s quality bowling, too,” Shepherd said.
“CYMS are going to have to work hard to get the total. We’re not going to make it easy for them. It’s probably anyone’s game for the taking at the moment.”
Centrals begin day two against CYMS from 1pm today.
