DAN Baker and Will Gunn’s plans to hold a special event in honour of a friend has become bigger than expected.
This Saturday the Stephen Dark Memorial BMX Jam will bring some of the country’s top riders to Orange.
The two Orange riders wanted to hold an event to honour good friend Stephen Dark, who was killed in a motorbike accident last year.
Plenty of riders and sponsors have come on board, ensuring Saturday’s event should be spectacular.
“There will be a lot of good riders here,” Baker said.
“The people who come to watch will get a really good show.”
The free event will be held at John Lomas Skate Park and will make the most of the facility’s extensions.
The idea of the jam is riders can come together and show everyone what they can do without the pressure of competition.
The jam is open to all BMX riders, not only the sponsored riders.
“There are heaps of prizes,” Baker said.
Gunn added: “Someone always has the hardest crash, so we’ll probably give that person a prize.”
Baker continued: “Then there’s like best trick.
“We’ve been given $500 cash. So we’ll have a little competition. People will get a minute on the park to do what they do. The riders and crowd will decide the winner.”
The Stephen Dark Memorial BMX Jam will start at 1pm on Saturday and there will be a barbecue available.
