Mourners spilled from the church into a marquee as they paid their respect to a popular member of the Orange community.
Members of the Bloomfield Junior Rugby League Club formed a guard of honour at the conclusion of the service to farewell a man who was passionate about the sport and championed the club.
Also a popular member of Orange’s building community, Mr Sturgeon died suddenly last Thursday afternoon after collapsing at work. He had just turned 44.
Mourners included friends, tradesmen, members of the sporting community and members of the board of the Ronald McDonald House project, which was a focus for Mr Sturgeon.
All were moved by tributes from Mr Sturgeon’s children Hayley and Lachlan and friends Mick Wykamp, Paul McDonell and Craig Wishart.
The service was conducted by the Reverend Gary Neville.
Mr Sturgeon is survived by his wife Helen and children Hayley and Lachlan.
