Orange and Cabonne councils hope skilled professionals who are tired of the metropolitan rat race will be drawn to regional life and take up jobs in the district.
“We have a rapidly growing health industry, relatively cheap residential and industrial land compared to the city, and a great lifestyle,” Orange City Council Business and Industrial Development Officer Tony Boland said.
Orange City Council hasn’t sent representatives to the expo since 2005 because they believed the wrong market was attending, but now Mr Boland is more satisfied that the event’s development is bringing in the right market.
Figures indicating about 10 per cent of people who attended last year’s expo had experience in the health industry, while 13 per cent were self-employed, has pushed Orange City Council to sell themelves in Sydney.
“In 2005 we didn’t believe the right target market was there, a lot were attending for holiday ideas rather than relocation,” he said.
“We are hoping for people with experience in medicine, health, metal trades, engineering, accounting and human resources to come this way.”
The 2010 Country and Regional Living Expo will be held from August 6 to 8 in Sydney at Rosehill Gardens Grand Pavilion.
The event is expected to attract more than 50 exhibitors from throughout NSW.
