As part of the challenge, school children from across the Orange region have been invited to represent their school by taking part in the Red Shield Appeal doorknock this weekend.
Launching the challenge last Friday, committee member Andrew Kent said the doorknock was a chance for the next generation to gain a valuable insight into the diverse nature of the Orange community and learn about the value of donating to charity and volunteering.
“Most children are pretty protected and are not exposed to hardships in life,” he said.
“I hope children can be inspired to look beyond themselves.”
The school with the highest number of students participating in the doorknock will win the Red Shield Schools Challenge.
Mr Kent especially encouraged students with a driver’s licence to take part, as they can make a day of the event with their friends.
Those wanting to take part in the challenge can register by visiting the Orange Salvation Army office at 131 Kite Street, or phoning 6362-1870.
