Mrs Pearce’s concerns stemmed from seeing many young people not wearing helmets and riding unsafely in public places.
She told the Central Western Daily she had witnessed a number of incidents where young people have taken risky behaviour.
“I was at IGA the other day and three boys, one on a scooter and two on bikes, came riding down the middle of Peisley Street with no helmets,” she said.
During another incident she saw two younger children ride through a red light in Sale Street.
Mrs Pearce said she also regularly sees youths riding at the John Lomas skate park in Anson Street without helmets when she visits the venue bi-weekly with her children.
While she encourages parents to ensure their children are safe while riding in public, she has criticised police and council for not cracking down harder on young children who don’t comply with the law while riding in public.
Canobolas Local Area Command Acting Inspector David Atkins told the Central Western Daily police are not responsible for monitoring skate parks.
He said it was parents responsibility to ensure their children had the right safety equipment.
Police do reprimand youths for riding without helmets when travelling in public areas to and from the skate park, however.
