The 2010 Savour Australia Restaurant & Catering Awards for Excellence for the Blue Mountains and Central West region selected Racine to take out the top prize, with Orange’s Highland Heritage Estate the runner-up.
Racine’s owners Shaun and Willa Arantz said they were thrilled with the win.
“Although sometimes it can be hard having an out of town restaurant, we love the fact that we are on a vineyard,” said Mrs Arantz.
“It so perfectly combines all those lovely elements of Orange that keep the tourists visiting and the locals brimming with pride.
“An award of this kind just helps it along a bit.”
Mr Arantz said although they didn’t “hold out for them” receiving awards was like getting “a little pat on the back, it’s a good feeling”.
Orange’s Lolli Redini Restaurant and Millthorpe’s Tonic Restaurant were also finalists in the awards’ fine dining restaurant category, beaten by Darleys Restaurant in Katoomba.
Bathurst’s Cobblestone Lane was deemed the region’s top eatery and best contemporary Australian restaurant.
