Officers David Penny, Elsa Crooks, Clinton Simpson and Mark Gillman commenced the torch relay in Peisley Street, weaving into Byng and Hill streets.
According to Canobolas Local Area Command Acting Commander David Powell, the relay is traditionally undertaken by various police areas and is known as 'The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics'.
"It's great to see the local police out to support such an event,” Inspector Powell said.
"It's a very worthy cause,” he said.
Police from 14 local area commands have proudly carried the torch throughout Australia, with the relay culminating in Sydney on September 21 for the start of the Special Olympics National Games.
Local officers were also joined yesterday by games competitor and Anson St School student Luke Rout, 15, who helped carry the torch through Summer Street.
Luke is one of 3000 people involved in the Special Olympics program and has been training several times a week in preparation for the Games.
