Around 3000 visitors attended the day, which is designed to give locals an insight into the mine’s operations.
“It’s a pretty tried and true format and always a success,” CVO community relations manager Nedra Burns said.
Visitors were given the opportunity to check out Cadia’s processing plant and open pit lookout, as well as some of the mining vehicles. Gold coin donations from the tours were donated to CareWest Lodge.
Cadia shotfirer and open day volunteer Neil Coles said he enjoyed the open days and the opportunity to show the community what goes on at the mine.
“People like to come out and have a look at what we do and it’s nice to show them that we’re normal people doing a normal job,” he said.
