Students received their HSC results via the phone or Internet and University Admissions Index (UAI) are released today.
Several changes were made to the HSC this year ensuring a fairer system of assessing and reporting student achievement against the standards.
The new HSC was designed to prepare students for employment and further education and students could study four units of English as part of their HSC program.
The new standards-based examinations gave students a clear understanding of what they needed to do in order to earn high marks.
James Sheahan Catholic High School deputy principal Simon Price said the school was “very happy” with the students’ results and all staff would like to congratulate them.
“The new way of reporting results is a significant improvement and one of the real benefits of the new HSC,” Mr Price said.
Orange High School principal Pam Ryan said all students had achieved “outstanding performances in both academic and vocational courses” this year.
“Orange High students excelled in the sciences, with physics students again setting the pace,” Mrs Ryan said.
“A distinguished achievers listing and the average result 6.53 above the State mean testify to the depth and excellence of these results.
“The school congratulates all the students on their achievements and I believe the top student this year will be Kearyn Ferguson.”
Canobolas Rural Technology High School principal John Archer said all students did well in mathematics but “especially those who struggled in the past.”
“Results from a number of our subjects such as music, business and maths were outstanding and we’re very pleased with the overall results,” Mr Archer said.
Mr Archer named Canobolas High students Drew Howell and Melinda Hamilton as two of the highest achievers in the HSC this year.
Kinross Wolaroi assistant-to-the-principal Graham Jaques said approximately 50 students received 90 or above out of 107 HSC students enrolled this year.
One third of HSC students at Orange Christian School received results above 80 out of 100 and principal David Baker said they were “extremely happy”.
“Not only do the students get information from their results but our school is able to plan courses for next year based on these results.”
Molong Central School principal Murray Paterson the schools’ results were above the State average in a majority of subjects.
He named school captain Leanne McKenzie as the top student this year and commended Design and Technology student Minrah Kinnaird for her outstanding projects which will tour country NSW next year.
