The Orange celebration, which centred on the theme Empowering Women to End Poverty by 2015, encouraged independence and success by equipping women with basic life skills.
“The response has been great, we have had a wonderful take up,” Orange City Council community development coordinator Karen Boyd said.
The morning workshops included information such as advanced financial literacy, hosted by Mary Brell and Beth Maclean, while Fiona Rossiter and Amanda Cush touched up on basic financial, family and life skills.
Businesswoman Lee Blume said she appreciated being able to work with other women.
“It is extremely important, especially for businesswomen,” she said.
“We get so involved in our business we tend to not network.”
While the businesswomen took advantage of the tools on offer, women balancing finances on the homefront were also well-equipped with the necessary skills and information.
“They are really important and something we will be following on with through playgroups,” Support Playgroup coordinator Jenny O’Hara said.
The motivation continued throughout the afternoon as successful local businesswoman Margaret Johnson shared her experience in building up her career, while Ethiopian-born Elizabeth Makonnen-Desta shared her experiences empowering the women of her homeland from her new hometown of Narromine.
