“We remind young people that while filming a fight is not an offence in itself, if images are passed on via a mobile phone or any other telecommunication device that is against the law,” acting Inspector Paul McCartney said.
He said Orange police responded to a call yesterday morning relating to two junior high school students fighting.
“It appears there were between six and eight other young people standing around watching with a report also that the incident was being recorded on mobile phones,” Inspector McCartney said.
“We certainly discourage any type of violence being captured on a mobile phone and remind young people of the consequences.”
Orange High School principal Marie Angus was contacted but declined to comment on the issue.
Inquiries are continuing.
