Once again NOFA has worked with Lolli Redini restaurant to host a fundraising event as part of the group’s ongoing commitment to give something back to the community.
Anson Street principal Garry Brotherton said the $14,000 raised by NOFA would help the school buy a new $80,000 bus within the next 12 months.
“We’re at the [fundraising] half-way mark,” he said.
“This money’s really going to make a difference ... Orange is a very supportive community.”
The bus will be used to transport students on various educational excursions.
Mr Brotherton said the event not only raised money but it also gave him the opportunity to talk to people about the school and its achievements.
One of the event organisers, Lolli Redini manager Leah Morphett, said the group had become aware of the school’s bus fundraising activities because her son is a student there.
“We decided to support the school because we knew the bus was vital for the student’s educational needs,” she said.
“We normally get together with a few ideas about different things we can support and then narrow it down to one.”
Ms Morphett said NOFA had now decided to hold fundraising events every two years.
“There are so many charities out there so we decided to meet biannually because you can only ask for so much money.”
Ms Morphett she expects NOFA to continue to raise money for worthy causes for many years to come.
“We’re all getting older though so we might have to look at a name change.”
Diners at the fundraising event were charged $130 a head and staff at the restaurant worked for free.
Food was also donated by Robanco and Country Fruits with various local wineries giving alcohol.
