As part of the day’s festivities children will be able to do a lap around the old Gnoo Blas race track in a selection of classic cars, including Herbie.
Herbie starred in the 1969 film The Love Bug, where he had a mind of his own and was often seen driving by himself, although he will have a driver while he’s in Orange said Gnoo Blas classic car club president Denis Gregory.
“He’s sure to be a big hit with the kids, and it’s great that he’s been made available to the show thanks to Orange VW dealers West Orange Motors,” he said.
“There will also be a section for kids’ pedal cars so the littlies will be well catered for.”
Mr Gregory said this year’s guest list, including Ford icon Allan Moffat, former F1 driver, race director for the V8 supercar series and clerk of the course for the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix Tim Schenken, and NRMA president Wendy Machin was one of the most impressive lineups the club had secured to date.
They will also be guests at an enthusiasts’ dinner that night.
Mr Gregory said the old Gnoo Blas circuit was an important part of motor sport history.
“It was built as a community project in 1953 by Orange City Council and Canobolas Shire Council and most of Australia’s best drivers competed there,” he said.
“Jack Brabham started his road racing career at Gnoo Blas and held the lap record at more than 102m/h up until the last meeting in 1961.”
This year’s show will be held on February 11.
