DAVID Hayward set the pace at the Orange City Disabilities Tenpin Bowling Championships on the weekend.
The deaf bowler took top honours in the open men’s singles, doubles teams and all events on his home lanes.
Hayward also bowled a record championship high game of 287.
The championships attracted almost 50 bowlers with 31 from Orange and 16 from Sydney.
Orange bowlers dominated the men’s events but the Sydney women really challenged the home town competitors.
Hayward won the men’s open singles with his 684 three-game total.
This game him an impressive 228 average and he finished 77 pins in front of fellow deaf bowler Dean Ainsworth on 607.
Sydney’s Mark Milner (493) took out the men’s A grade singles title ahead of Orange’s Damien Barrett (480) and Matthew Carroll (447).
In B grade Greg Dean finished on top with 510 followed by Sydney’s Lars Emmerson (484) and Orange’s John Livesey (482).
It was an Orange hat-trick in C grade with Ray Kable (398) winning ahead of Matthew Lawson (369) and Robert Wells (359).
And Jeromie Zelukovic took out the men’s D grade singles title with his 296 three-game total.
Jennifer Finnerty was the only Orange bowler to win a women’s singles event, taking out the A grade title with a 457 total.
Sydney bowlers won the other women’s singles events but they were pushed all the way by the Orange competitors.
In the doubles David Hayward and Dean Ainsworth combined to take out the open event with a six-game total of 1095.
The Orange combination of Jennifer Finnerty and John Cameron could not be beaten in the A grade doubles with their 970 total.
Orange’s Wayne Nolan and John Livesey won the B grade doubles with their 790 total.
Meanwhile, Orange bowlers featured in all five winning combinations for the teams events.
Four all events titles went to Orange bowlers at the conclusion of the championships.
It was no surprise David Hayward won the open title with his nine-game 1791 total to average an impressive 199.
John Cameron won the A grade men’s title with his 1334 total to average 148.22.
The men’s D grade title went to Jeromie Zelukovic with his 849 total.
Jennifer Finnerty continued her dominance of the women’s A grade titles taking out the all events with her nine-game 1406 total and 156.22 average.
Orange bowlers also featured heavily in the minor placings of all the events.
