Toya Lombo ($3 favourite, Jason Turnbull) had spent the race enjoying a comfortable trip behind race leader Kalypso Sam, and when the time came to peel out for the run home the Wendy Turnbull-trained runner had plenty left in reserve.
He came up alongside Kalypso Sam with 200m to run and cruised home over the final few strides to record career win number three - a victory which has been a long time coming.

Toya Lombo had been through a luckless run last preparation but the gate one start gave him a great opportunity to strike back.
In his three previous starts from the inside draw he'd never missed a placing.
He began this current preparation with a disappointing seventh placing before showing plenty of improvement in a third placing last start.
Jason Turnbull said Wednesday's latest race played out the way he had hoped for.

"He had a really good run. The 28.3 [third quarter] and the 30 home really suited him. He did it really easily so hopefully he can keep on going with it," he said.
"He went pretty terrible in his first start so we changed a couple of little tiny things with him and he was much better running third place, with no luck, and tonight he was right on."
Prince Parker ($3.50, Mitch Turnbull) and Cowboys N Indians ($3.70, Lleyton Green) each finished strongly out wide for the minor places.
Steve Turnbull and David Reynolds each enjoyed back-to-back victories at the Bathurst meeting through London Legs and Saint Emilion plus Manhattan Island and Teddys Ideal respectively.
