The final tally of votes shows that the projected contest between Ms Dorsett and Mr Newstead being the one to watch was indeed true.

Ms Dorsett received a total of 499 after preferences were allocated and Mr Newstead received 585.
The votes were counted a total of six times with Bruce Reynolds, Scott Ferguson and Michelle Pryse Jones being elected in the first count, Craig Gosewisch and Allan Ewin in the second, David Somervaille during the fifth and John Newstead during the sixth.

For those that love numbers some statistics are:
- There were 5,453 people enrolled.
- Total turnout was 4,784 which is 87.73 per cent.
- Total formal votes was 4,560.
- Total informal vote was 224 which was 4.68 per cent.
The elected councillors will be sworn in during a brief Blayney Shire Council meeting on Thursday December 23 at 6pm.
The mayor will be elected by the new council.
