Cabonne Council staff will start the road-safety project in January, 2022.
The works will be funded under the NSW government's Safer Roads Program.
The program is a road safety infrastructure treatment program that delivers sustainable and long-term reductions in road trauma through upgrades of the existing road network.
The works will include a reduction in the rise of the road, so that cars turning right from Lake Canobolas Road onto Cargo Road towards Orange, will have an unimpeded view of oncoming traffic, allowing road users to turn safely.
The works will also include an extension to the left-hand turning lane from Cargo Road onto Lake Canobolas Road, and a minor widening of the road.
In 2019, $470,000 in state government funding was allocated for safety improvements at the intersection, where serious crashes have occurred in the past, including a fatality in 2018.
